Handsets that support DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast for Handhelds) aren't exactly the trendiest and most talked about mobile phones nowadays, but Samsung doesn't care. It's pretty confident that its new son just might be able to change how we look at mobile TV. Or not. But the fact remains, Samsung's new P960 slider phone is a slick mobile that's also a music player, camera, and mobile television in one.
The Samsung P960, aside from being the world's first DVB-H mobile TV phone to support the European mobile TV standards, Digital Video Broadcast and Open Mobile Alliance Mobile Broadcast Service Enabler Suite (OMA-BCAST), also features a large 2.6-inch QVGA screen that can display up to 262K colors, a 3 megapixel camera, FM radio with RDS and a 1200mAh battery.
Battery life with the 1200mAh battery is billed at 5 hours of mobile TV watching. And with Bang & Olufsen ICEPower tech in the audio, you're surely in for a great listening experience. And Electronic Service Guide (ESG) is built-in to serve as a mobile TV guide, as well as a novel new feature: Picture in picture (PIP) which lets you view two channels at the same time.
Korea and Europe are sure targets of this new mobile, judging from the spec sheets. And as for us, well, we can only hope that some enterprising friends can manage to import a few. There's no official word on pricing and availability yet, but knowing Samsung, I'm sure you will get what you pay for.
